INDUSTRIAL OVERVIEW

The demand for Natural Gas has been catching up fast with industries and household alike being cost effective cleaner fuel. With its low accident risk owing to its chemical nature and ease of availing the supply through pipelines, natural gas is set to be the future fuel of cities for domestic and commercial use.

As per latest reports there is an increasing commitment by Government of India towards a gradual shift towards cleaner energy. The policies adopted by the government aspire to push the share of natural gas in the country's primary energy basket from 15 per cent by 2030 from current 6.2 per cent.

Thus we have seen the sector regulator Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) give out CGD licenses for 232 geographical areas (spread across 407 districts in 27 states) in two bid rounds in the last two years which is set to serve 70 per cent of the population. We also saw the declaration of the CGD sector as a public utility sector in the FY 2019-20 by the Government of India, thereby emphasizing its value and need.
